It’s no secret that Andrews appreciates and supports the efforts of our United States military personnel. Just earlier this year we became the Official Mover of NEOPAT (Northeast Ohio Foundation for Patriotism). This partnership with NEOPAT allows us to partner and help our local Northeast Ohio veterans and their families.
We were contacted by the USO of Solon (United Service Organizations) volunteer Lisa Wiant a few weeks back to see if we would be interested in assisting with the USO’s move to their new location at Gardiner School located off Bainbridge Rd in Solon. Andrews President Taylor Marshall gladly offered our services at no cost as a means of helping to support the USO and in essence to help improve the lives of the military men and women who serve our country.
The Solon USO is headed up by Ralph and Noel Burr, who have children serving overseas. Ralph is a retired US Army Colonel, and is very active with the local VFW and the armories in our area. Noel is their organizer. The USO receives donations from the local community and also from events like “Fill the Cruiser” sponsored by the local police and fire departments. The USO volunteers sort and package the donations to be shipped to service members overseas. Lisa estimates that they ship 30 packages per week. She says “The fall is especially busy as we send boxes to our troops for the holidays, and we need to get them out before mid-November to arrive in time.”
Lisa said that she and her family have been deeply impacted by the events of 9/11 and ongoing conflicts overseas and that she volunteers for USO to thank the young men and women that defend our country. Thanks to the efforts of groups like the USO and volunteers like Lisa, our military men and women can be supported.
