In October The Columbus Dispatch published an article about the rise of hunger within the suburban Columbus, Ohio, area. The Columbus Dispatch reports, “The suburbs show the fastest-growing need for food assistance in the 20-county area served by the food bank […] The suburban pantries are being used more by families who didn’t need help before. Some people who used to donate food or money to their local pantry now are lining up for food from the same pantry” (Lane, Mary B). With the continuation of poor economic circumstances families that didn’t traditionally need assistance are visiting their local food bank for help.
Andrews Moving is proud to be the first and currently the only Columbus-area mover to join Move for Hunger, a non-profit organization that aims to aid food pantries year round. As part of the program, Andrews will supply an extra box to residents that are relocating and ask any non-perishable items the resident does not wish to take with them on their move be placed in the box. Andrews will collect these boxes when moving the resident and will deliver the boxes of donated food once a month to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
The Mid-Ohio Food Bank collects and distributes food to over 500 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, after-school programs, and senior housing sites across central and eastern Ohio. Many of these are food pantries used by suburban Columbus residents. Andrews will deliver a minimum of 300 lbs of food per year to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
Andrews’ Cleveland office has also joined the program making it one of only two Cleveland movers participating in the program. The Cleveland donations will be made to the Cleveland Food Bank.
